If you’re ready to get to the root of lifestyle-related disease, build lasting confidence in living a plant-based lifestyle, and surround yourself with an inspiring, like-minded community—this retreat is for you. Join me in Costa Rica for six days of sunshine, nourishment, learning, and connection as you cultivate a healthier mindset and rediscover the vitality, joy, and vibrant living that’s meant to last long after you return home.

You find yourself sitting quietly, watching the sun melt into the Pacific Ocean. Below you, the rainforest stretches endlessly—alive, breathing, vibrant. The sky is painted in gold, coral, and soft violet.

Your mind lingers on the laughter and easy connection that filled the kitchen just moments ago, as you and your new friends prepared a vibrant, locally inspired plant-based meal together. Conversation flowed as naturally as the ingredients—stories shared, hands busy, everyone contributing to something both joyful and nourishing.

Now your body feels pleasantly satisfied—not heavy, but fueled.
Your mind is calm.
Your heart feels unexpectedly full.

You feel hopeful.
Clear.
Energized in a way that doesn’t come from caffeine or willpower, but from alignment—food, movement, community, and nature all working together.

You realize this is what “wellness” is meant to feel like.
Not restrictive. Not complicated.
Just vibrant, connected living.

And as the last light slips behind the horizon, you sit a little taller, breathe a little deeper, and think—

I want to live like this.

Near you on the veranda are people who, just days ago, were strangers—now sharing easy conversation, inside jokes, and that unspoken sense of connection that happens when we slow down enough to really see one another.

A warm breeze brushes your skin.
The scent of the rainforest rises—green, earthy, alive.
In the distance, howler monkeys call to one another, their voices echoing through the trees like nature’s own evening chorus.

For the first time in a long while, you notice what it feels like to not be rushing.
To not be managing symptoms, schedules, or stress.
To simply be here.

The chefs prepare each gourmet dish using fresh, locally sourced ingredients—vibrant tropical fruits, hearty beans and lentils, rice, garden vegetables, fragrant herbs, and naturally rich spices—allowing the flavors to shine without the need for added oils or processed ingredients.

Meals are enjoyed in a relaxed, open-air setting overlooking the lush landscape, creating an experience that invites conversation, laughter, and meaningful connection. This is food that fuels your body, supports long-term wellness, and demonstrates just how abundant, flavorful, and joyful whole food plant-based living can be.

The Venue

Nestled in the heart of the jungle, high in the lush hills above Costa Rica’s southern Pacific coast, Imiloa offers a setting that feels both expansive and deeply grounding. Surrounded by vibrant rainforest, flowing rivers, and sweeping views of the ocean below, this is a place where nature isn’t just a backdrop—it’s an active part of your experience. Warm breezes, birdsong, and frequent wildlife sightings—sloths, toucans, monkeys, morpho butterflies, and more—remind you that life moves differently here: slower, more intentionally, and far more connected.

The architecture blends seamlessly with the landscape, featuring open-air spaces, natural materials, and thoughtfully designed accommodations that invite light, air, and the rhythms of the jungle inside.

Accommodations include 200-year-old Balinese homes perched on the cliff, Geodesic Domes in the jungle canopy, and Bungalows tucked near an unofficial sloth sanctuary.

Whether you’re walking along winding garden paths, relaxing beside the infinity pool overlooking the canopy, or sitting quietly on your private deck, you’re constantly immersed in the sights, sounds, and scents of the rainforest.

Gathering spaces—from the yoga shala to the communal dining areas—are designed to foster reflection, learning, and genuine connection. Every detail supports restoration and inspiration, creating an environment where you can step away from daily demands and reconnect with what truly sustains you.

At Imiloa, the setting itself becomes part of the transformation—calming the mind, energizing the body, and opening space for clarity, creativity, and renewal.

The Flow of Your Retreat

What Becomes Possible Here

🫐 Let Food Feel Joyful Again—Not Like a Battle
Picture yourself at a long open-air table, surrounded by vibrant colors, incredible flavors, and people laughing as you pass dishes around. You’re full, satisfied, and not thinking about “should” or “shouldn’t.” Something has shifted. Instead of fighting cravings, you’re discovering what it feels like when your body is actually nourished—and healthy eating starts to feel natural, even easy.

🫐 Walk Into Any Social Situation Feeling Relaxed, Not On Guard
Imagine heading to a dinner out or a family gathering without that quiet anxiety about what you’ll eat or how to explain yourself. You know how to navigate it. You feel flexible, confident, and present. The focus is back where it belongs—on connection, conversation, and enjoyment.

🫐 Become the Person Who Inspires Others Without Trying To
You don’t need to convince anyone. When you feel this good—grounded, energized, clear—people notice. Your choices start to spark curiosity in the people you love. You’re modeling what’s possible simply by living it, and that feels far more powerful (and peaceful) than persuasion.

🥭 Finally Experience Change That Feels Like It Fits Your Life
No rigid rules. No all-or-nothing thinking. Over these days, you begin to see what actually works for you—habits that feel supportive instead of stressful, mindset shifts that create momentum instead of guilt. This is where sustainable change begins: not forced, but aligned.

🥭 Find Yourself Surrounded by People Who Just… Get It
There’s a moment when you realize you’re not explaining yourself anymore. Around you are people asking the same questions, sharing similar experiences, laughing at the same struggles. The sense of community is real, warm, and energizing—and you leave knowing you’re no longer doing this alone.

🥭 Start to Imagine a Future Where You Feel Better Than You Do Now
As the days unfold, you notice small but meaningful shifts—steady energy, better sleep, clearer thinking, a body that feels supported instead of pushed. You begin to see what might be possible for your long-term health, and how to move toward it thoughtfully, in partnership with your own care team.

Your Host ~ Niki Davis, MD

My journey into this work began at the age of fourteen.

I was overweight, uncomfortable in my own skin, and desperate to feel healthy — then one winter morning, my dad collapsed with a massive heart attack while shoveling our driveway. I was the only one home with him. He survived, but that moment planted a question I couldn't shake: Is sickness inevitable? Is this just... my future?

The answer, I came to understand, is that our healthcare system excels at managing symptoms while rarely asking why they appeared in the first place — leaving people frustrated, disconnected from their bodies, and quietly convinced that real change isn't possible for them.

When I discovered whole-food, plant-based nutrition and lifestyle medicine, everything shifted. I experienced firsthand what it feels like when the body finally gets what it needs — not to be fixed, but to heal.

But life had more to teach me. Navigating divorce forced me to lean into something equally powerful: connection. Honest conversations, shared meals, laughter, the feeling of being truly seen. What carried me through surprised me — and it's backed by decades of research. Social connection is the single greatest predictor of happiness and longevity. More than almost anything else we study. Connection isn't a complement to wellness. It is wellness.

True nourishment is never just what's on your plate. It's how you move, how you cope, and how you care for one another.

This retreat is a chance to step away from the noise, return to what actually matters, and experience vibrant health rather than just read about it — surrounded by people walking the same path.

I would be deeply honored to walk it alongside you. 💚

FAQ’s

  • You’ll want to fly into San Jose (Juan Santamaria) International Airport. The airport code is “SJO.”

The high-class experience starts in San Jose when you are brought to our private aircraft just for you and retreat participants to be flown 15 minutes to Quepos.

At the Quepos landing strip, the friendly Imiloa team will pick you up in SUVs. The next time you’ll see your baggage will be in your accommodation. Enjoy the 30-minute drive up the mountain to Imiloa.

    • A valid passport is required and must be valid at least six months after the date of travel.

    • Three weeks prior to departure for the retreat you must supply your up-to-date flight information.

    • If arriving on the same day your retreat starts, arrival to SJO (“wheels down”) should be prior to 7:00AM. If this is not possible please book your flight the day before and spend the extra night in San Jose.

    • Be at SJO domestic terminal by 8:45AM. Group charter flight departs at 9:30AM local time.

    • On departure day, you will arrive to the San Jose International Airport at 11:30 am. It is suggested to be at the international terminal 3 hours prior to your international departure; please book your departure time accordingly.

  • Late October is one of the most beautiful—and vibrant—times of year on Costa Rica’s South Pacific coast, where Imiloa is located. This is the tail end of the “green season,” when the landscape is incredibly lush, the rivers and waterfalls are full, and the rainforest feels especially alive.

    Expect warm, tropical temperatures
Daytime highs typically range from 80–85°F (27–29°C), with mornings and evenings comfortably in the mid-70s°F (24°C). It’s warm, but not scorching, thanks to regular cloud cover and ocean breezes.

Afternoon or evening rain showers are common
You may experience rain showers—often in the late afternoon or overnight. These rains are usually refreshing rather than disruptive, and they’re what make the jungle so intensely green. Mornings are frequently clear and ideal for activities and excursions.

Humidity is part of the experience
This is a true rainforest climate, so expect some humidity. Lightweight, breathable clothing makes all the difference, and most guests find they acclimate quickly.

The payoff? Incredible scenery and fewer crowds
This time of year offers dramatic skies, misty jungle views, vibrant wildlife sounds, and a sense of calm that’s harder to find during peak tourist season.

    The Terrain
Being in the Savegre mountains, our retreat offers a chance to explore the rugged terrain while immersing yourself in nature. Expect to navigate jungle paths with varying inclines, stairs, rocks, and exposed tree roots. We recommend wearing sturdy shoes like sneakers or strapped footwear for stability (such as Chacos, Keens or Tevas). While the trails accommodate a variety of fitness levels, a basic level of physical capability is advisable to fully enjoy the experience. Since we’ll be staying at a retreat center with indoor/outdoor elements, expect to be exposed to nature (including winds, geckos, lizards, and jungle bugs), as well as the sounds of monkeys, tropical birds, and cicadas.

  • There is a thrice-filtered private well for drinking water throughout the property.

  • There is High-Speed Fiber Optic Internet available throughout the property.

  • Yes, we always highly recommend travel insurance that includes trip cancellation and medical coverage. You never know what can happen that could prevent you from traveling – you want to protect your travel investment. Be sure to read the fine print, as policies can differ greatly. It’s best to include a “cancel for any reason clause.”

Two insurance companies that we suggest are Global Rescue and Travel Guard Insurance online.

  • This is not just a vacation in a pretty place. It is an investment in YOU. A more appropriate question would be, how can you afford NOT to do this?

Also please know that payment plans are available, and we’ll do our best to accommodate your needs.

  • Yes! After registration, you’ll receive a retreat questionnaire where you can inform us of your dietary needs.

    • Light, breathable clothing (think linen, cotton, athletic fabrics)

    • Comfortable walking/hiking shoes

    • Light layers for cooler mornings/evenings

    • A light rain jacket or poncho

    • Sandals or flip-flops for relaxing around the property

    • Swimsuit for the pool and beach

    • Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and insect repellent

    • Tote or small backpack for excursions

    • Imiloa provides beach and pool towels. Anything you may have forgotten, such as essentials, they always have on hand for guests. Depending on the item, there may be a fee.
